2021-2022 School Reopening Plans: August 2021 Dear Auburn Families,   The Auburn Enlarged City School District will be starting the 2021-2022 school year with full in-person instruction five days a week for all students in Grades K through 12. Below are some of the plans that are being put in place based on recommendations from the Cayuga County Health Department and guidance from the New York State Education Department.   Face Masks: All students and employees will be required to wear masks correctly and consistently regardless of their vaccination status while on buses and inside any school buildings. Auburn Enlarged City School District to Hold Second Community Listening Session Monday 8/23/21: Auburn School Board members will host their community listening session, which will be moderated by parent Kara Georgi. The session, broken into two parts, will focus on understanding the supports needed for a successful reopening and developing a safe and welcoming school environment.   The format will follow the Community Café model. The Community Café is a platform where all participants engage in discussion prompts where everyone is an equal participant, regardless of title. Back To School Giveaway & BTW After School Program Registration Saturday 8/21/21: The Booker T. Washington Community Center will be hosting a Back To School Giveaway this Saturday, August 21, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the field next to Booker T. Washington Community Center, 23 Chapman Ave. There will be FREE school supplies provided by NUCOR Steel while supplies last! There will be food available and FREE kids haircuts will be offered as well. In addition,  BTW will be conducting after school program registrations!  Check it out! more >>
AJHS 7th Grade Student Orientation Tuesday 8/24/21: Auburn Junior High School is hosting student orientations for all 7th grade and transfer students on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 (student last name A – Le, from 8:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.) and (students last name Li – Z, from 12:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. ). Students should report to the Auditorium at Auburn Junior High School.  Brief parent orientations are scheduled for Tuesday, August 24, 2021 , at 10:30 a.m. (student last name A – Le) and at 2:00 p.m. (student surnames Li – Z). Auburn School Board to hold community cafĂ© to listen to community concerns - July 28 @ 7pm at Auburn High School: 7-27-2021 We look forward to hosting the first in a series of listening sessions tonight with our school community. The session will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the high school library and will be led by experienced facilitators that will lead the group through the community cafe model. There will be chances to speak in smaller groups and share common hopes and concerns with the full group. At the end of the session, we will compile what we've heard and touch upon next steps. Incident at Auburn Junior High School on 6/23/21: Dear Auburn Families, Thank you to all who brought the incident that occurred at Auburn Junior High School on Wednesday evening to my attention. Because this event took place after school hours and after summer break had already started, it was never officially reported to me until today. The school district is working in partnership with the Auburn Police Department to conduct a thorough investigation regarding this violent episode. Whether school is in session or not, violence on school property will not be tolerated, and those involved will be disciplined accordingly. 6/10/21 - Important Message from Superintendent Pirozzolo: June 10, 2021 Dear Auburn Community, It is with profound sadness that I must inform you of the passing of our Genesee Elementary School Principal, Mrs. Heather Costello-Bartman, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side. Our thoughts and condolences go out to Mrs. Costello-Bartman’s family and the entire Auburn Enlarged City School District community. During this time, as our school community processes this tragic news and copes with grief, our district’s crisis team will offer counseling and bereavement support services to all of our students and employees. 5/25/21 - Important Message from Superintendent Pirozzolo: It is with great sadness that we inform you that an Auburn Junior High School student was tragically killed in Syracuse in the early evening of May 24, 2021. COVID Vaccine Clinic Info & Consent Forms: Dear Parents/Guardians, If you signed your child up to receive the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, please read the information below. In order for your child to receive the vaccine, you must fill out the appropriate parent/guardian vaccine consent and screening forms below for each child that will be receiving the vaccine.   All completed forms must be signed and returned to your child’s school on or before Thursday, May 20, 2021. AECSD Parent/Guardian - Pfizer/BioNTech Vaccine Sign-Up: Hello Parents/Guardians, The Cayuga County Health Department (CCHD) will partner with local school districts to administer the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine to students ages 12 and up whose parents/guardians give consent. The Auburn Enlarged City School District will provide transportation during the school day for our students whose parents/guardians give consent for them to be vaccinated. Parents/guardians will need to register their child(ren) and sign proper permission forms. If desired, parents/guardians may be present while the vaccine is being administered to their child(ren). Changes To In-Person Instruction For Auburn Schools & Spring Break Food Box Distribution: March 25, 2021 Dear Auburn Families,   We are very excited to announce that we will be able to provide the opportunity to bring all of our students back for in-person instruction full time based on the recent announcement from the Cayuga County Board of Health recommending physical distance between students move from 6 feet to 3 feet. We are anticipating full time in-person instruction to start April 19 as long as COVID cases remain low during the two-week period following spring break.   All elementary students in the hybrid learning model will return for in-person instruction Monday through Friday. AECSD In-Person Hybrid Model Resumes January 20: January 14, 2021 Dear Auburn Families,   As most of you have already heard, Cayuga County Legislature Chairwoman Aileen McNabb-Coleman and Cayuga County Health Department Director Kathleen Cuddy have announced that schools are able to resume in-person instruction next week due to the decline in positive COVID cases in the county. The 7-day average positivity rate in Cayuga County is currently 8.7%, which has been steadily declining over the last week.   We have continued to keep a close watch on the number of positive cases in our school community as well, and they have also been declining. AECSD Transition to Remote Learning Dec. 9 - Jan. 20, 2021: Dear Auburn Families,   In response to the concerning increase in COVID-19 cases throughout our community, as well as the number of AECSD employees and students in mandatory quarantine, the time has come for our entire school district to temporarily transition into a full remote learning model. Beginning tomorrow, December 9, all of our schools will move to full remote learning through January 19, with a tentative in-person return date of Wednesday, January 20, 2021. Auburn High School Announces Class of 2021 Valedictorian, Salutatorian: Jake Hansen, Valedictorian AHS Class of 2021 Kathryn Brown, Salutatorian AHS Class of 2021 Congratulations! Jake Hansen , son of Thomas and Dawn Hansen, has earned the distinction of Valedictorian of the Auburn High School Class of 2021 . Jake is a member of the National Honor Society and several other clubs including the Chemistry Club, Varsity Club, French Club and the History Club. He is also a member of the Auburn High School golf and baseball teams and has spent many hours volunteering in the community for organizations such as the Red Cross and Majorpalooza.
