AHS to host Blizzard of Sound indoor percussion event Feb. 21

Get ready for a high-energy afternoon of rhythm, precision, and pageantry. On Saturday, Feb. 21, Auburn High School will play host to the Blizzard of Sound, a New York State Indoor Percussion Circuit competition.

Unlike traditional marching bands, indoor percussion takes place in a gym setting, allowing the audience to be up-close to the action. This year’s "Blizzard" features 13 distinct groups, each presenting a themed program utilizing a wide array of instruments—from marching drums and cymbals to marimbas, synthesizers, and theatrical props. There will also be an exhibition performance by the Auburn Winter Guard program.

The event kicks off at 1 p.m., bringing together student-musicians from across the region to showcase their talent in a unique blend of musical performance and choreographed movement.

"We are thrilled to welcome these talented performers to Auburn for the first time," said Bennett Coughlin, director of the Auburn Indoor Percussion program. "The 'Blizzard of Sound' is more than just a competition; it’s a celebration of the hard work, discipline, and artistic creativity these students pour into their craft all season long."
