What makes the Auburn Enlarged City School District a great place to work?
Auburn is a small city school district which can be a benefit because you’re working in a district with great resources but small enough where you can enjoy a family-like work environment. The district has various instructional and leadership openings, as well as open positions in support roles.
We call ourselves “Auburn Family,” and it’s something that we take pride in every day. That includes employees who come from other areas.
“Although I am not originally from Auburn, it has become my home over the last 25 years,” said Amy Mahunik, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. “The Auburn Enlarged City School District is a collaborative organization that seeks to continually grow, develop, and support its staff, which provides a strong foundation of success for our students and an enjoyable working environment for all.”
Working in Auburn also means opportunities to grow professionally.
“The Auburn Enlarged City School District offers a supportive and inclusive environment that values professional growth, diversity, and community involvement,” said Sarah Passarello, assistant superintendent for student services. “It emphasizes collaboration and continuous learning, making it a great place to work for those who are continually trying to grow.”
“I think specifically, especially in the music department, just the camaraderie from the staff has been really great,” said Bennett Coughlin, an elementary music teacher. “Whenever I have questions (fellow faculty) are always open to give you suggestions. The students are always engaged. I think just the combination of staff and students and the camaraderie that we have has been really excellent.”
A good measuring stick of a great school district is the number of Auburn alumni who come back because they know what a wonderful community Auburn is to live and work in.
“I like working in Auburn because it is my hometown, and it's a great way for me to give back to my community,” said Elizabeth Molloy, Owasco Elementary vice principal. “I'm a product of the district. I have been given so much by my teachers. I love living in Auburn. I don't think a lot of people my age would love living in their hometown, but I do. I think Auburn is a great place to raise a family. It's big enough where you don't know every single person but small enough, where your neighbors are looking out for you, and you have really strong connections with people.”
The Auburn Enlarged City School District strives to offer its employees a positive work atmosphere.
“One thing that I really appreciate since starting here in Auburn, is it has a very welcoming environment,” said Brad LaSagna, a STEM Teacher at Owasco Elementary. “I feel that every time I come into school, everybody's just very welcome and ready to go.”
“One of my favorite parts about working in Auburn is the supportive environment, all the staff members are very nice,” said Sydney Fallat, a keyboard specialist at Herman Avenue Elementary. “You'll feel welcomed by everyone. Everyone is willing to help.”
LaSagna appreciates the resources the district offers to teach his students.
“One thing I've really noticed, especially being in STEM, with the amount of resources we need, is there seems to be an abundance of resources,” he said. “So if we need something, I feel that I can get it and I think that's really good, especially in my field.”
