Update on 2024 capital improvement projects

An update from Superintendent Pirozzolo on the district's capital improvement projects.

Dear Auburn families,

With the current school year concluding, the district’s 2024 capital improvement projects will start to get underway as we continue to improve our facilities to help create a better and safer learning environment for our students.

These projects involve Auburn High School, Auburn Junior High School, Seward, Owasco and Genesee elementary schools. The projects at the high school and junior high school will result in the closure of the buildings for the summer. All projects are expected to be completed by the end of August in time for the start of the 2024-25 school year.

At Auburn High School, the bus loop will be repaved with new sidewalks. The staff parking lot will be repaved and the sidewalks will be replaced. The walkway from the parking lot to the Fleming Street sidewalk will be extended. The library’s flooring will be replaced.

New air handling units will be installed on the high school roof and you’ll see cranes when this work is underway.

At Auburn Junior High School, a new and more secure vestibule will be constructed in the building's main entrance. The main office will be reconstructed and air conditioning will be installed in the building’s first and second floor A wings. The main entrance and bus loop will get new sidewalks and lighting and the staff parking lot will be repaved.

As many of you know Seward Elementary’s project has already begun with the installation of a new parking lot between the Pop Warner football field and the west side of the school.

The parking lot will have a new loop for parents to drop off their children to lessen the number of cars on Metcalf Avenue and create a new traffic pattern to make it safer. When the project is completed, cars won’t be able to park on Metcalf Avenue in front of the school.

Other parts of the project include sidewalk replacements, a southside asphalt walkway replacement, repaving the staff parking lot and drive lanes and replacing Seward’s southside exterior doors and frames.

Genesee Elementary will get new roofing and at Owasco Elementary, new playground equipment will be installed and the auditorium’s lighting will be replaced.
