College/Career Night to be held at AHS on Oct. 24

The Auburn High School Counseling Department and the Cayuga Counselors’ Association will again co-sponsor the Cayuga Area College/Career Night.

This year’s event will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with a Financial Aid Presentation starting at 5:30 p.m. at Auburn High School. There will be approximately 90 representatives from four-year private and public colleges, two-year private and public colleges, non-profit and government agencies, various branches of the military and employers, such as law enforcement, public safety, civil service, trade unions, industry and the medical field.

At the bottom of this page is an attachment with a list of colleges with majors and career opportunities.

The representatives can answer questions about admission, programs of study, costs, financial aid, athletics, campus life, military career options, and employment opportunities.

Although College Night is targeted toward 11th and 12th graders, it is appropriate and suggested for college-bound students of all ages and their parents.

All representatives will be in the gymnasium in an arena-type setting. We strongly suggest that students research potential colleges beforehand and know their colleges of interest, so that their time is best utilized on College/Night Night.

Please see the enclosed college fair checklist and list of participants to better prepare for the fair. Students can access their SCOIR account to help with this process.

If you would like assistance, come to the Counseling Office to make an appointment with Mrs. Marinelli, our career aide.

Here is a list of workshops:
  • Ms. Mary Brooke Oropallo from Cayuga Community College will conduct a workshop on financial aid at 5:30 p.m. in the AHS auditorium. The application process for various types of aid will be explained.
  • Dr. Karen Grella and Ms. Jeanne Shaw from the Cayuga Community College Office of Accessibility Resources will conduct a workshop on Disability Services available at the college level. This will be held in Room E215 at 6:15 p.m.
  • Mr. Steve Crosby, AHS school counselor, will conduct a workshop on college athletic eligibility requirements. This will be presented at 6:30 p.m. in Room E209. This information is essential for all prospective college athletes.
Since the search for and selection of a post-secondary institution is so challenging, it is extremely important to gather as much information about these schools as possible. College/Career Night will provide a big step in this direction. All interested students and parents are strongly encouraged to attend.
