Superintendent Pirozzolo announces retirement

Auburn Enlarged City School District Superintendent Jeffrey Pirozzolo announced to the district’s Board of Education on Tuesday, Jan. 9 that he will be retiring Jan. 5, 2025. 

The advance notice allows the board to be able to conduct a full and thorough search for the district’s next superintendent.

Pirozzolo has served as Auburn’s superintendent since July 2015, and upon his retirement will have spent over 19 years in the district. Prior to being named superintendent, he also served as an assistant principal and assistant superintendent for personnel. 

“It has been my privilege serving the students, staff, parents and community in Auburn,” Pirozzolo said. “I have lived in Auburn for eight years and I plan on living here for many more years because this is a wonderful community and a great place to raise your family.”

Pirozzolo added he plans to continue serving on the community boards he has been involved with over his tenure as superintendent as well.

“I have met so many great people in Auburn, and I know this school district will continue to do great things. I will always be available if there is a need to support the Auburn Enlarged City School District in the future.” 

The school board will start its search for a new superintendent immediately, appointing Cayuga-Onondaga District Superintendent, Dr. Brian Hartwell to facilitate the search process. Hartwell says the application period is anticipated to open in mid-February with candidate interviews ensuing by spring.

The district invites the Auburn community to become involved with the new superintendent search via a survey that asks for input on the qualifications and characteristics desired of candidates. The survey will also seek opinions on the district’s immediate needs and recent achievements.
