Rock Your Socks on March 21, 2019 for World Down Syndrome Day: ROCK YOUR SOCKS ON March 21, 2019 FOR WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY Please join us on March 21 as we strive to create a single global voice for advocating for the rights, inclusion and well being of people with Down Syndrome in our community and around the world. The date for World Down Syndrome Day, being the 21 st day of the 3 rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21 st chromosome which leads to Down syndrome. A glimpse of what to expect at Auburn High School as an incoming freshman: (February 15, 2019) - Every spring, the AHS and AJHS counselors put on 8th Grade Parent Information Night for the incoming freshman class and their parents. The purpose of the event is to give the students and parents a glimpse of what they can expect when they transition to the high school as 9th graders. Check out the video the counselors put together! Thank you to all volunteers and donating sources involved with 2018 Fill-A-Belly Over Break at Genesee: On behalf of the Auburn Enlarged City School District, Genesee Elementary School would like to thank all volunteers and donating sources for supporting our annual Fill-A-Belly Over School Break Food Program, Winter Gear Give-A-Way, and Holiday Assistance Program. For the ninth year, Genesee Elementary School was able to offer the opportunity for families to receive both perishable and non-perishable food items over holiday break. Auburn High School Musical Club Presents “Into the Woods” February 7 -10: The hit musical “Into the Woods” will be presented by students of the Auburn High School Musical Club Thursday, February 7 through Sunday, February 10.  The show intertwines the stories of Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Little Red Riding Hood as they all venture into the woods to get their wishes.  The Baker (Aaron Baim) and Baker’s Wife (Genevieve Cioci) have learned that the Witch (Kayleandra White) has put a spell on their house preventing them from having a child. To lift the curse they have to go into the woods to find a white cow, yellow hair, a gold slipper, and a red cape. On their search they meet an array of characters. Four Auburn teachers selected for Noyce Master Teaching Fellowship program: (L to R): Victoria Calarco, Kelley Horbal, Christina Calarco, & Patrick Crawford by Jessica Luisi, Public Information Specialist (January 25, 2019) – Four Auburn teachers have been selected to take part in the Noyce Master Teaching Fellowship program through the Warner School of Education at the University of Rochester. Owasco Elementary librarian Victoria Calarco, high school science teachers Christina Calarco and Patrick Crawford, and high school math teacher Kelley Horbal were all chosen to be a part of this prestigious program. The Noyce Master Teaching Fellowship program is a 5-year program designed to serve 20 K-12 mathematics and science teachers. UPK 2019-20 open enrollment starts February 1:   Open Enrollment for Auburn Enlarged City School District’s 2019-2020 Universal Pre-Kindergarten Program Begins Friday, February 1!   The Universal Pre-Kindergarten program is an integral component of our district and includes a UPK program for our 4-year-old learners and a 3PK program for 3-year-olds! Owasco Elementary donates over 170 pairs of pajamas: (December 18, 2018) – Over 100 students at Owasco Elementary collected over 170 pairs of pajamas to be donated to the Cayuga/Seneca Community Action Agency as part of a holiday giving project tied to Scholastic’s Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive. For every new pair of pajamas collected, Scholastic donates a book to go along with them. The program provides new books and new pajamas to children in need, many of whom are waiting and hoping to be adopted.   This giveaway project started at Owasco in 2016 with just fifth grade students participating. In 2016 and 2017, fifth grade students collected between 65-75 pairs of pajamas each year. The Auburn Enlarged City School District on Monday sent an automated phone message to all district parents in an attempt to quash rumors of threats and violence at the high school. Superintendent Jeff Pirozzolo said administrators are being flooded with phone calls from concerned parents after false rumors were posted on social media. In particular, a rumor about a bomb threat and a rumor about a shooting at the high school are causing concern. Pirozzolo said the district sent out the robocall to make clear that the social media posts are "completely untrue." This year, the district has teamed up with representatives from Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes to expand the Seeing Stars© program, providing an innovative way to further our students reading fluency skills. Auburn High School announces Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the Class of 2019: (November 6, 2018) - Auburn High School has announced the valedictorian and salutatorian for the Class of 2019. Zachary Moore earned the distinction of valedictorian and is a member of several clubs and activities including the National Honor Society, SADD Club, Z-Club, and the Varsity Tennis team. Matthew Bergan is the salutatorian and is also a member of several clubs including the National Honor Society, FBLA, Varsity Club, and the Varsity Baseball team. Two Auburn teachers accepted into NYS Master Teacher Program: Aaron Williams and Div Patel work in the lab as Chemistry teacher Prin Furst looks on. by Jessica Luisi, Public Information Specialist (November 5, 2018) – In October, New York State accepted 275 master teachers into the New York State Master Teacher Program, and two Auburn teachers, Matthew Drastal and Prin Furst, were among those selected. The New York State Master Teacher Program (NYSMTP) began in 2013 as a way to identify and support teachers who teach STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) subjects. Teachers who are chosen to be a part of the program are considered to be innovators and leaders in STEM education. Auburn High School Counseling Department, Cayuga Counselor's Association to host Cayuga Area College Night on October 18: Auburn High School students listened to representatives from Nazareth College discuss the college programs they offer during a college visit on September 21.   (October 15, 2018) - The Auburn High School Counseling Department and the Cayuga Counselors’ Association will once again co-sponsor the Cayuga Area College Night . This year’s event will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2018 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. with a financial aid presentation starting at 5:30 p.m. at Auburn High School. Big D’s provides supplemental transportation service to Auburn school district: (Auburn, NY – September 21, 2018) – As many parents and guardians of students in the Auburn Enlarged City School District are aware, the school district has been experiencing some transportation issues with its contracted transportation provider, First Student, due to a shortage of bus drivers. The district has been working diligently with First Student’s regional manager to resolve the issues. In the meantime, the school district has an obligation to transport students to and from school, as well as to and from extracurricular events, so the district had to find alternative transportation methods that would help meet their obligation.
