AHS to host College and Career Night on Oct. 19

This year’s annual Cayuga Area College Night will feature something new for local high school students.

In addition to more than 60 colleges, Cayuga County-area students will also have the opportunity to speak to representatives from local businesses, apprenticeship programs and trade unions. 

Starting this year and moving forward, the event, co-sponsored by Auburn High School Counseling Department and the Cayuga Counselors’ Association, will be a College and Career Night.

“This year, we are excited to also offer students and families the ability to connect with local businesses who are looking to provide career opportunities for graduating students," said Auburn High School counselor Jane Stryker.

The event will be held on Thursday, Oct. 19 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Auburn High School. Students from all Cayuga County-area high schools are invited to attend.

There will be approximately 65 representatives from four-year private and public colleges, two-year private and public colleges, and branches of the military.  

Various workshops will also be conducted:

• Financial Aid Presentation, 5:30 p.m.: Mary Brooke Oropallo from Cayuga Community College will conduct a workshop on financial aid in the auditorium. The application process for various types of aid will be explained.
• Disability Services Workshop, 6:15 p.m.: Dr. Karen Grella and Jeanne Shaw from the Cayuga Community College Office of Accessibility Resources will conduct a workshop on disability services available at the college level in room E215.
• College Athletic Eligibility Requirements Workshop, 6:30 p.m: Steve Crosby, AHS school counselor, will conduct a workshop in room E209. This information is essential for all prospective college athletes.
